Luge Competition (with a difference.....!)

I was almost home from a great days skiing in Les Arcs when from a distance I spied this rather large group of people gathered on the piste. Through my zoom lens I could see hundreds of multi-coloured balloons and many people clad in strangely coloured wigs !! Being curious by nature (OK, nosey) I felt further investigation was required, so I moved a little closer.....
I stood for a good 10 minutes just watching the frivolities taking place - then a huge banner appeared which explained the purpose of the gathering. It was the Savoie Polytechnic - Ecole d'Ingénieurs (Engineering school) Luge competition.
At this point, the competition seemed to spark into action - a start and a finish line appeared and 'luges' were unveiled...... Here's a selection of some I managed to snap -ingenious 'feats of engineering' don't you think?

In addition to the incredible luge's above, there was also one which consisted of a blue rubber dinghy piloted by 3 young chaps all wearing luminous lime green Borat thongs! I did take a picture, but thought better of publishing it !!!
The competition winner appeared to be the one that slid the furthest down the mountain still containing its pilot.
The pink shopping trolley won 1st prize, with the wine bottle coming a very close 2nd. The 'Borat boys' fell out of their boat half way down the piste (wow, that must have been cold!!!) but they definitely got my vote ...!!
